What is ReStore?
The Iowa City ReStore is a 10,000-square-foot treasure chest filled with new and gently used building materials and home goods. Anyone, regardless of income, can purchase materials (anything from paint and nails to cabinets, appliances, and furniture) at affordable prices. Maybe someone else has donated just what you need to complete the project you’re working on now. All you need to do is come in and look around.

With this service, our community benefits in several ways. One, ReStore’s proceeds support Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity. Two, with a little carpentry skill, everyone can have a home or business to admire. And three, our services divert reusable household items and building materials from our local landfills.

Sales from donated items help Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity partner with local families to build, rehabilitate, and repair safe and affordable homes in our community—a good deal for you, our community, and the environment.

Remodeling, cleaning, down-sizing, or just getting organized? Whatever your project, don't let the items you no longer need end up in the landfill. Donations to the Iowa City ReStore are tax-deductible, and 100% of the proceeds support Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity's mission. The Iowa City ReStore staff and volunteers make the donation process as simple as possible.

If your item is not sellable or useable, it costs our small organization time and money. Be sure to review our donation list of items that we do and do not accept. Thank you!

Your cans build homes!
Drop off is located on the south side of our building.
*Donate ONLY deposit-eligible aluminum cans and plastic bottles (sold in Iowa and displaying an Iowa refund stamp). NO GLASS—these items pose a danger to our volunteers and staff.

Your cars build homes!
Have a vehicle you no longer use? Donate it to our Cars for Homes program, and your vehicle can help provide safe, affordable housing to families in need.🚗💙 We handle the details, and you make a world of difference. Call the Iowa City ReStore at 319-338-5687 and we will help turn your car into a home for someone in need.

In 2024, 17 vehicles were donated to our affiliate which raised nearly $17,000!
